What it Means When Society Turns Against Basic Goodness

Fr. Benedict J. Groeschel, C. F. R.

Father Benedict J. Groeschel, world renowned author, retreat master, psychologist, and host of Sunday Night Live with Father Benedict Groeschel, a program broadcasted on Eternal World Television Network (EWTN) whose format is a combination of interviews, viewer questions, and discussions of spiritual and social matters relating to the Church. He is also one of the founders of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (CFR) – dedicated to renewal in the church. On January 19, 2009, he will give a presentaion entitled “Breaking or Keeping the Natural Law: What it means when society turns against basic goodness.”

Well known for his bold and powerful witness to the gospel and on the sanctity of life, he was an advocate of the Civil Rights in the 1960s and has long been involved with charitable facilities for the poor, including the Padre Pio Shelter, St. Anthony Residence and St. Francis Youth Center. He is director of the Office of Spiritual Development for the Archdiocese of New York and associate director of Trinity Retreat as well as executive director of The St. Francis House. He is Chairman of The St. Francis House and the Good Counsel Homes; a board member of Ave Maria University in Naples, Florida, and a member of the American Psychological Association.

Father Groeschel is the author of several books, including The Tears of God (2009), Everyday Encounters with God (2008), Questions and Answers About Your Journey to God (2007), The Virtue Driven Life (2006), and Why Do We Believe (2005).

Born in Jersey City, Father Groeschel was ordained a Capuchin priest in 1959. He has a Masters degree in Counseling from Iona College (1964) and a Doctorate in Psychology from Columbia University (1971).
