Infants and Toddles: if your child is restless you may go to the Chapel (door at rear of Church) and continue to follow the Mass on the speakers. (at the 10:00 am Mass please go to the rectory area opposite the receptionist's desk as the chapel will be used for the school children's Liturgy of the Word.

Beginning the Sunday after Labor Day:

  • We have special Sunday School instruction for pre-school children in the Play-Group rooms under the Church. Parents bring their children down before Mass and leave them there until the end of Mass. One of these groups is for ages four and five and taught by Sharon McKenna, our sacristan. The other is for ages six and seven, taught by Laura Ross, President of our Parish Council.
  • We have for older children a special Liturgy of the Word where the Sunday's Scripture Readings are explained to them by one of the younger priests on our staff.  This group will come to Church with their parents and will be called to the Altar after the Opening Prayer and then follow the Priest into the adjacent Chapel accompanied by one or two parents where they will remain until the Offertory when they will return to rejoin their families in Church.
  • On two coming Sundays, October 22 and November 19, we are planning something new -- we will have a very special participation of children at this ten o'clock Mass. On these two Sundays there will not be a special Liturgy of the Word in the Chapel for school-age children.

For all of these programs to continue here at STM, and be successful, we need parents to chaperone each one of these groups during the Family Mass.  Please sign up NOW! Only one parent is needed for each group, so it we all pitch in, we may only need you once or twice a year! Parent/Chaperone volunteers are most important since revised Archdiocesan policies demand that no adult be alone with children when providing religious instruction.

Pre-Confirmation Training:

There are two inter-parish programs for children. They prepare for First Confession, First Communion and Confirmation. Parents should make arrangements to enroll their child in one or the other of the following programs:

  • The Narnia Clubs: Grace Abruzzo, Director, call 212 535 9329
  • Inter-Parish Religious Education Program: Joanne Cunneen, Director, call 212 861 4764
